If you cannot say something good, rather keep quiet. I like to - TopicsExpress

If you cannot say something good, rather keep quiet. I like to read the newspaper. No, I mean I really enjoy reading it multiple times a day. Yea, I do not get out much. During this soccer world cup I did not give much attention to the soccer scores except when Australia was playing, and I was quite proud of the boys and the way that they showed that Australia may be a power to reckon with in the years to come. There was one article that triggered a thought however, and that was the one of the voodoo priest in Brazil who was going to put a curse on the teams they played against. He would take key players of the opposite team and do things to their voodoo doll counterparts and put them in a box. This was supposed to incapacitate the players. And then Germany happened… This week I listened to the story of Balaam and his donkey. It was his job to curse the Hebrews, but God decided differently. Whenever he opened his mouth to curse he had to bless. I wonder if we think about negative talk as cursing? I look at what is happening in various parts of the world and I see the effects of negative talk. Close to my heart is South Africa – quite a few of the expats I know has no hope for the country. The comments that I have read on FB pages, news papers and the like is heartbreaking to read. Do they not know that the more they talk the country down, the more it will go down? Because they are actually cursing the country and their people? Something that I have noticed time and time again in the life of my husband is that he would speak his mind, give a solution to a proposed problem and he would be shot down. Only to see that the powers that be is actually implementing the solution he gave a month or so ago. In the beginning it would upset me terribly because I felt that he was the prophet not heeded in his own country. Then I came to understand that words have power and even when people do not necessarily want to listen to what you say, the moment the words are send out into the natural realm they are taken up into the spiritual realm and they will return. Now I know that even when I am frustrated by the apparent inability of people to listen when a man of God speaks, the words will not return empty. He does not need to get the credit, as long as he speaks it. The Bible warns that the tongue can cause a mighty fire that destroys everything in its path. My warning to people today is – think before you speak, for when you speak a curse or negativity, you first speak it in your own mouth, which means that that evil will take form in your body first. The bitterness and hate that you feel when you speak the curse will not leave you unharmed. You are shooting yourself in the foot (so to speak). When you speak words of encouragement and words of blessing, you form those in your mouth as well, and you will benefit from those words as well. I am not propagating “naming it and claiming it”. I am merely saying what I read in Proverbs. Also what my mum taught me: If you cannot say something good, then rather keep quiet.
