If you come to Crystal Lake this weekend, if you have the opportunity, you might like to hike the short Tototonga Trail which is a fairly short loop that you can find by parking at the upper parking lot (past the cafe parking lot and at the Windy Gap trailhead parking lot) and walking generally East (pick up a trail map at the Visitor Center.) The reason why this weekend is special is because Tototonga has a tremendous amount of biological diversity since you will find a number of micro-climates on the short loop. There is a broad variety of plants, many of them flowering plants, which you wont find anywhere else within the Crystal Lake Recreation Area, CA (within easy reach, any way!) Tomorrow we will have work crews spread out along Lost Ridge Trail and more crews working along the lower section of Windy Gap. If you see them, wave Hello. Also if you see Bubba the Cat Ambassador of Crystal Lake dont forget to exchange meows!
