If you could wave a magic wand and make one or two policy or institutional changes to brighten the U.S. economy’s long-term growth prospects, what would you change and why? OB contributor Alex Nowrasteh writes: open borders for skilled workers (no caps on H1-Bs and green cards for skilled workers, and reduced administrative inconvenience and delay). There are some hundreds of millions of those, potentially, and their per-individual economic gains are larger while the benefits to natives are larger, so that would be a huge and important change, and more politically feasible than open borders probably. With a magic wand though, why not go all the way to open borders? Perhaps the thought is that this is about per capita rather than total GDP?
