If you could wave a magic wand and make one or two policy or institutional changes to brighten the U.S. economy’s long-term growth prospects, what would you change and why? OB contributor Alex Nowrasteh writes: open borders for skilled workers (no caps on H1-Bs and green cards for skilled workers, and reduced administrative inconvenience and delay). There are some hundreds of millions of those, potentially, and their per-individual economic gains are larger while the benefits to natives are larger, so that would be a huge and important change, and more politically feasible than open borders probably. With a magic wand though, why not go all the way to open borders? Perhaps the thought is that this is about per capita rather than total GDP? Or just wanting to keep attention on something more politically feasible, that, e.g. a Republican Congress might get behind? cato.org/publications/cato-online-forum/boost-highly-skilled-immigration
