If you deny people water for long enough and then give them sand, - TopicsExpress

If you deny people water for long enough and then give them sand, all you have to do is tell them that it is water and they will drink it. Its the sand drinking thats causing all the quarrels going on among Nigerians in these weeks leading up to the election. The belief that the solution to Nigerias problem lies in GEJ vs GMB. Im not saying people shouldnt vote. By all means go out and vote. But please do not put your faith, hope, or belief in either one of these men, because neither of them has the power to change Nigeria. The power to change this country lies with us. Our votes give us the power to put someone in an office, but in a democratic government in which the power of the president is limited with multiple checks and balances what can that person really do? The expectation that one man will change this country is killing us, and personally, I hate that people these days either belong to the cult of GEJ or the cult of GMB. Judging by the insults people are trading on the Internet, membership of the opposing cult is an abomination, a reason to hate and abuse. This divide and conquer technique has been used to control us for far too long. But what can we do? Every body will say go and vote. Vote out GEJ. Vote in GMB. Vote out PDP. PDP is corrupt. But APC is also corrupt. Both parties blur into each other in the field of corruption, much like the Pigs and the Men in that last scene of George Orwells Animal farm. Both parties are corrupt. The country is corrupt. WE are corrupt. And yet we think one man will save the country. How? Is he the one forcing our parents in the ministries to demand bribes from any and everyone. How about the University administration boards who have embezzled the monies meant for developing our schools? Arent they the same uncles and aunties and church members who talk about how bad the country is while they use stolen funds to train their children abroad. Who are the people aiding and abetting the decay of NEPA by gross maladministration and even sabotage? Are they elected officials? Who are the ones enriching themselves in NNPC? They are our daddies and mummies in church, our mentors from the mosques. When they come to give their testimonies about how they will never be poor again, we all clap and shout alleluia, even the pastors and the priests. Maybe GMB will be able to get the Senate and the house to approve prosecution of a few corrupt Nigerians. Maybe theyll even approve for soldiers to come to the bus stops with whips to ensure people stay on queue. Maybe GEJ will be able to complete all the federal highways. Maybe hell find out whos really behind Boko Haram, but what happens after? IBB destroyed Buharis legacy, such as it were, in less than a year. Whoever the puppet masters put in Aso Rock after either of these men will have no problem undoing any progress they make. Why? Because the people are willing. Deep down, we are an indolent, hypocritical, and easily corruptible lot. Eager to take the easy way out, and quick to blame whoever is in power for our problems. Were nothing but a complacent flock, easily satisfied with a few blades of grass, and false promises of a greener pasture. As long as we continue like this, politicians will continue to come every four years, press the buttons that make us believe that THEY can save us from our own corruption, and once we give them the power they want... The suffering and smiling will continue.
