If you didnt attend Barewa college, your parents cheated you. Below is a list of some of us that ran/run this country. I apologize to those I cant remember right now, I compiled this in a hurry. Barewa College, Zaria is one school which has produced a lot of eminent Nigerians. One of the most distinguished Nigerians who attended Barewa College, Zaria is Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the First and only Nigeria Prime Minister, when Nigeria gained independence in 1960 and was re-elected in 1964. There is also Alhaji Shehu Shagari. He was the 6th president of Nigeria in the second republic 1979-1983 under the National party of Nigeria. He also holds the aristocratic title of turakin Sakkwato in the Sokoto Caliphate. General Murtala Ramat Muhammed is also an old boy. He was the 4th Head of state of Nigeria, from 1975-1976 until his assassination in 1976. He is widely recognized as a hero in the country. General Yakubu Gowon is also an old boy. He is the 3rd Head of State of Nigeria 1966-1975. He later became a professor of political science at the University of Jos in the mid 80s and attained the status of an elder statesman of Nigeria Politics. So also General Muhammadu Buhari, a retired Major General and the 7th Head of state of Nigeria under the military 1983. He ran unsuccessfully for the office of the president of Nigeria in 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections. Late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua also attended Barewa College. He was the President of Nigeria before President Jonathan stepped in. He was the 13th Head of State 2007-2010. He also served as Governor of Kastina State 1999-2007. He was a member of the ruling PDP. He died in office on 5 May, 2010. There is also Iya Abubakar, he is a notable Nigerian mathematician and politician who was Federal Minister of Defence during the Nigeria Second Republic and Senator for Adamawa north 1999-2007. He was a Professor of Mathematic at the Ahmadu Bello University at the age of 28 and a Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria 1972-1975. Abdukadir Ahmed was a Businessman and a top Civil Servant, who was Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria 1982-1993. He is an old boy of Barewa College in 1955. Air Marshal Ibrahim Mahmud Alfa (rtd) was a Governor of Kaduna State 1978-1979 and the chief of Air staff of the Nigeria Air Force. Ibrahim Muhmud Alfa who was in Barewa College in 1962, died on 16th March, 2000. How about Prof. Jubril Aminu, a professor of Cardiology, Nigeria Ambassador to USA 1999-2003 and was elected senator for Adamawa Central Constituency in 2003. He also held office as Federal Minister of Education and then Minister of petroleum and mineral resources on 2 January, 2010. He was installed “the bobaselu of the source” by the Oni of Ife.. Do you know Sir Ahmadu Bello (1910-1966) is an old boy? He was a Nigerian politician and was the 1st Premier of the Northern Nigeria from 1954-1966. He was the Sardauna of Sokoto and the son of a district head and heir to the Sokoto Caliphate. Alhaji Adamu Ciroma is a Nigeria politician and former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor from 1975-1979. He is a founding member of the PDP, he served as Minister of Finance form 1999-2003. Former presidential aspirant in 1979 under the National Party of Nigeria. Also, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie is an old boy. He was an Inspector General of police of Nigeria from 1993-1999, under the military Governments of General Sani Abacha and Abdulsalami Abubakar. Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki is a Nigerian religious leader who became the 18th Sultan of Sokoto from 1988-1996, the position launched him into national and international lime light. As Sultan, he served as the president of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs. He was deposed by General Sani Abacha in 1996. Alhaji Umaru Dikko is politician and was a trusted adviser to President Shehu Shagari. He was also Nigeria Minister for Transportation from 1979-1983. Justice Idris Kutigi is a Nigerian Lawyer and Judge. He was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria from 2007-2009. Late Alhaji Suleman Takuma (1934-2001) was a veteran Journalist, politician and business man. He served as the National Secretary of the defunct National Party of Nigeria. Late Justice Muhammad Bello (1930-2004) was the first Northern Chief Justice of Nigeria from (1987-1995), Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai was a former director general of the Bureau of public enterprises and also former Minister of FCT Abuja from 2003-2007. In 1976, he graduated with 1st class in Barewa College, winning the BOBA academic achievement trophy. Nuhu Ribadu is a police officer and lawyer; he is the chairman of the Petroleum Revenue Task Force and a former Nigeria Government Anti-corruption official, former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) General Alwali Kazir (Rtd) was a Military Governor of Kwara State from 1989-1992 during IBB’s military regime. He was also the Chief of Army staff from 1994-1996. Governor Sule Lamido served as the foreign minister of Nigeria from 1999 to 2003 and was elected Governor of Jigawa State in 2007 and also ran successfully for re-election in 2011. Justice Mamman Nasir (RTD) GCON, served as Northern Nigeria Minister of Justice from 1961-1966 and Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of North central Government. He was also in private legal practice (mamman Nasir & Co). Justice Mamman Nasir is the Galadima Kastina. Late Dr Yusuf Bala Usman is a revered academician and intellectual, he was the head of the department of history Ahmadu Bello University Zaria until 1980 when he left to serve as the secretary of the Government of the former Kaduna. He died in 2005. Prof. Ango Abdullahi (CON) is the former vice chancellor of the Ahmudu bello University Zaria, a former minister and the present Spokeman of the Arewa Citizens Action for Change (ACAC). He is also a prominent member of Northern Elders’ Forum. Late Mallam Aliyu Mai-Bornu (1919-1970), he was a Nigerian economist and the first indigenous Governor of the Central bank of Nigeria form 1963-1967. He was 1942 set of the old boys. Rtd Late Gen. A Bello dambazau (CFR) was the former Chief of Army Staff, and an old boy of Barewa College in 1970-1976 set. Dr. Ahmed Mora (Mini), he is the secretary-general of the Barewa old boys association (BOBA) Dr. Ahmed Ali is a trained surgeon, one time minister for education, 1st director-general of NYSC, 3 times senator and the former PDP National Chairman. Dr Umaru Abdul-Mutallab is the Present National Chairman of Barewa old boys Association (BOBA) and the former chairman of First bank of Nigeria plc. Mohammed Nur Khali is the Chairman Governing Council Federal College of Education Paskshin and the CEO merepianti Nigeria ltd. Rtd Gen Abba Kyari was the first Governor of the North-Central State during the military regime of Gen. Yakubu Gowon. Late Isa Kaita (CON), he held the traditional title of Madawaki of Kastina and later the waziri of Kastina. He was a distinguished broadcaster; and a regional Minister for Works and Education in the Northern region of Nigeria. He died at his residence in Kaduna in 1994. Mahmud Kanti Bellow was a Nigerian senator who represented PDP in the Kastina North senatorial district and was the Senate’s majority whip. He became a senator in 2003 and was reelected in 2007. Late Rtd Gen. Hassan Katsina was a Nigeria Army General, he was the Governor of the Northern region of Nigeria from 1966-1967 and later became the deputy chief of staff, supreme head quarters under the administration of Yakubu Gowon. Alhaji Shehu Karkar is a National Officer of the Barewa Old boys association (BOBA). Late Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Umar Sanda Ndayako, he was a well distinguished and well regarded Civil servant of a very high repute. He was appointed the Etsu Nupe in 1976. Before then, he was Makun Nupe. He passed through Barewa College in 1951-1955. Mallam Adamu Fika CFR is a Career Civil Servant who held several enviable offices like director general / clerk designate, National Assembly Director General. He was at Barewa College between 1958-1960. Alhaji Tijani Dagazau is a Nigeria Businessman, the owner of Dagazau carpets which he commissioned in 1985, which was then the largest modern carpet factory in West Africa. He is also involved in Civil engineering and oil trading. He was educated at Barewa College. Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi is a former director general of the defunct National Security Organization (NSO) now State Security service (SSS) from 1978-1980. Before then, he was a first Class police Officer. Alhaji Ahmadu Kurfi OFR is the distict head of Kurfi in Kastina State. He was a veteran civil servant in the 60s and also was at various times. Executive Secretary Federal Electoral Commission, a Federal Permanent Secretary in the department of manpower development. He is also Maradin Kastina. Prof. Sadiq Suleiman Wali was the chief to five former head of states namely Gen. Buhari, Gen Babaginda, Chief Shonekan, late Gen. Abacha and Gen. Abdulsalam. He was also Kano State Commissioner of Health during Abubakar Rimi Regime. Prof Wali was 1959 old boy of Barewa College. Dr. Barkindo Aliyu CFR is the Lamido of the Adamawa Emirate, he was turbaned in 2010. HRH Alhaji Shehu Usman Abubakar is the 10th Emir of Gombe and Chairman Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs since 1984 to date. He had his education at Barewa College as far back at 1966. HRH Dr. Muhammadu Abali Ibu Muhammad is the 43rd Emir of Fika in Yobe State. HRH Dr Zayyanu Abdulluhi is the Emir of lere in Kaduna State. He is a retired Army general and former military administrator of Sokoto State. Arc. Yomi Awoniyi is the deputy Governor of Kogi State; he is an old boy of Barewa College in 1976. Alhaji Sagir Aminu Saleh is the deputy Governor of Bauchi State. Late Alhaji Abubakar lah popularly known as Abubakar Ilorin, before his death at the age of 101 Years, was the oldest surviving old boy of BOBA. He was a renowned teacher and administrator; he was also the Shettima of Ilorin. Alhaji Isa Ozi Salami was an old boy of Barewa College in 1962-1966. Before his appointment as Honorable member of the ICPC, he has served as chairman of many organizations. Bensamcyn Bamaiyi (CFR) was also an old boy just like the rest. He was a students leader on ABU Zaria. He is a researcher, an author and an entertainer. Above all, he will worth over #54,000,000,000 in 20 years time. Can you beat that?
