If you dont like gripping, then stop reading now. I had a call - TopicsExpress

If you dont like gripping, then stop reading now. I had a call around 4 PM about a suicide attempt in the County. I gave a verbal order for the Deputy to take the respondent to Wiregrass Hospital with a 72 hour verbal hold, if needed. Hospital called and said that he was medically stable to be transported to a psychiatric hospital. I called BMU in Dothan. Was told that they had a room and have Wiregrass call them Wiregrass called me back and said that they had a policy not to accept from another hospital for 24 hrs. New policy of which I had not been informed. Wiregrass said that they no longer have ICU and had no place to hold him. I called New Day who receives money from SprectraCare to handle my patients. Oh, and this is over $1 million a year, a contract that Wiregrass turned down. New Day said that they have a policy not to take patients after dark OR on the week-ends from other hospitals. Mind you that they get YOU TAX DOLLARs to do this. My patient is STILL at Wiregrass and I have NO PLACE to place him. Folks, your State Legislature agreed to close my State Mental Hospitals. Your State Legislature approved Dept. of Mental Health to contract with SpectraCare to give them $ millions of your dollars. And I still have no place to send patients. I ran for this job this time just because of my mental patients. No body else gives a damn because these folks dont vote. Wake up and let your Legislature know that you want Mental Health funded and forget about civil rights museums ( which are ran by some legislators families ), Country music, rock and roll, and NASCAR Museums ( of which I am a fan of all 3 ) and put the money in helping our mentally ill citizens. This is an increasingly serious problem with no solution in site. We have to take action. It is now 8:45 PM and I have been working on this for 4 1/2 hours and STILL no resolution
