If you dont vote at all, youre telling them you want - TopicsExpress

If you dont vote at all, youre telling them you want Abbott. You know what they never taught me at school? WHY my vote counts. My vote doesnt count because it only goes to a group who perfectly reflect my views (anyone seen a staunch atheist, far left, feminist, pro-science, vegan political party?!). Nope, thats not how voting works. Even minor political parties have some power, even if its just pressure on the big parties to adjust their policies. So when you put labour second last and liberal dead last, youre not just voting for labour, your putting a little pressure on the political system to listen to at least *some* of your views. And far, FAR more importantly, if you dont vote at all, youre not exerting any pressure what so ever... youre saying steady as she goes, capn. Yeah, its a shitty system. But whether or not theres such a thing as a better system, this is the reality of where and how we live. Sitting at home going stupid system, dont agree with it, no one reflects my views exactly, means your one little chance of actually putting pressure on the system goes to waste. At the last election, an estimated 1.2 million people didnt vote who could have. Sadly I fear most of them just dont understand: If you dont vote at all, youre telling them you want Abbott. aec.gov.au/Enrolling_to_vote/Enrolment_stats/
