If you don’t occasionally take the time to listen to nature in - TopicsExpress

If you don’t occasionally take the time to listen to nature in the quiet of the early morning, you have truly missed opportunities to recharge your soul and cleanse your spirit. As I quietly stole out the French doors onto the lanai outside the bedroom, the space was empty in anticipation of the refurbished hot tub. The only thing to sit on was the antique porcelain commode that will soon become a planter in the new garden. So . . . I giggled as sat down on the lid. I sat my steaming coffee on the tank and with pen in hand, began to notate the symphony of birdsong spilling from the tall pines around me. (Thank you, Dr. Miniear , for those endless drills in sight-singing and ear training, so many year ago). I was fascinated. There were so many new “songs” since last year. I made two pages of notes . . . 5th down, 3rd up, 2nd down, 4th up quarter, eighth, grace note-half note . . . most of the notes were between the G and C above middle C. The exception was the Mourning Dove, which had an appropriately lovely Eb minor combination. The “vocalists” were eventually joined by the rush of wings and the murmurations of the starlings before settling to feed in the next field. It sounded like the distant chaos of an orchestra tuning up before a concert. With the sun rising and my coffee cup empty, it was time to take my notes and my recharged soul back into the house and prepare for singing in the human choir on this beautiful spring morning.
