If you ever decide to rent a car in the UK (dont know until tomorrow if Scotland will still be part of it), heres a few hints: #1 get the smallest you can. Narrow and short would be good. Note how the truck takes up the entire road? This is the major highway between Fort William and Inverness, two huge places in the Highlands. #2 figure out how far it is you wish to drive, then how long you think it will take. If it is a secondary road, expect a maximum speed of 20 mph. I could 15 to 25 feet in front of me today, sometimes as much as 100 (though that was looking down on the curves I had to take). Every once in a while theres a space to pull over and let someone share your one lane. #3 you cannot drive safely and read signs. Certainly not ones advertising places you might like to see such as oh, castles, distilleries, and woolen mills. #4 Consequently, revise what you plan to do. As in, reduce it. Today I drove to the Clan Cameron museum, 40 minutes along a one-lane track. I got there at 11. I did not confirm the hours, which are 1:30 to 4:30. So I went back along that track and farther. Found Treasure of the Earth, a gems, crystals and fossils display --- and shop. Inexpensive and fantabulous. So, at least I bought my birthday and Christmas presents. For last year and this one... Never did see the distillery...
