If you ever do parallel processing of your binlogs, make sure you pass TZ environment variable to mysqlbinlog, otherwise it will stat(/etc/localtime) for each event (OS assumes you might change system timezone any nanosecond) Lots of parallel filesystem activity on the same file will end up contending on a kernel mutex, so mysqlbinlog will be mostly spinning and doing nothing else.
