If you ever see one of these, avoid contact. Its the Portuguese man o war (a.k.a. blue bottle) and has a notorious sting. Its not a true jelly, but its tentacles share the same specialized harpoon-like stinging cells as members of the jellyfish class. They can sting even after dead so dont let your children or pets approach them on the beach. They are most likely to be seen in the Keys during the winter months. If you are stung, watch for signs of shock, especially since some people may have strong reactions, and seek medical attention.
