If you go to Applebees in Salisbury, they have several great, local, Maryland beers on tap (e.g., Evo, Burley Oak, Tall Tales). If you go to Applebees in Seaford, about twenty minutes away, they have a few great, local, Delaware beers on tap (e.g., 16 Mile, 3rd Wave). I assume, possibly incorrectly, that this is due to some corporate decision to offer in-state beers, which probably makes sense in most areas, but not in an arbitrarily divided region like Delmarva, where the people with deep roots dont think of themselves as Marylanders or Delawareans. It doesnt matter at all (unless youre assuming that a local restaurant will have your favorite local beer, in which case you might be disappointed), but it illustrates the odd, illogical importance we tend to place on invisible boundaries drawn by politicians, despite the fact that most regions, including Delmarva, already have perfectly adequate boundaries drawn by nature, like the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays.
