If you guys liked my referee class last Monday, I have an assignment for you, provided you have some time on your hands. Below, Ive attached three links to a bout between Yuki Ota (Japan) and Salvatore Sanzo (Italy) from the 2008 Olympics. Its a well paced, easy to follow bout. Here are your instructions: 1. Watch these links in order, its a fifteen point bout in three parts. Referee this bout. 2. Whenever the ref calls halt, pause the video and make the call. If you need to, you can rewind up to twice to watch the action again. Again- you may only review the action twice before you can make a call. 3. Make your call (use your hand signals and everything), then press play and listen to the refs call. 4. If you got it right, good job! If you made a bad call (a call that is not what the ref in the video calls), watch the action once or twice more to see if you can catch your mistake. Keep in mind, making the right call is not necessarily the same as giving the point to the right person. You can make a bad call and still give the point to the right person. 5. If you still cant catch your mistake, dont get hung up on it. Press play and continue to referee the bout. Here are the three videos for the bout: Part 1- https://youtube/watch?v=o3MB_lWNU94 Part 2- https://youtube/watch?v=k-Xjj6Lvboo Part 3- https://youtube/watch?v=8T5_9dyIzNo If you would prefer a sabre bout, heres Morehouse (USA) and Sanson (France): https://youtube/watch?v=0WsslLBgX9Y And in case you need a reminder, here are the FIE hand signals: urfencing/Referee%20Signals.pdf
