If you have a bottle of Heinz ketchup in your fridge, I encourage you to watch this incredible documentary, El Contrato, by Toronto-based film-maker Min Sook Lee.. and yes, Stompin Tom gets a cameo! https://nfb.ca/film/el_contrato ..for any of you who have been following recent news outta Leamington, this is compulsory viewing to gain a deeper understanding of how Heinz pulling up stakes affects the lives of those who contributed to any success and profits that were in the balance. According to the discussion board re that CBC article I posted, McDonalds cancelling their contract is really only part of the story, as this film reveals. Its hard to know exactly where to begin after watching this NFB documentary, and my thanks go to producer Min Sook Lee and the National Film Board for such a sensitive and insightful portrayal of the working conditions of Mexican migrant workers in Canada. Produced in 2004, I wonder how things stand currently with regard to workers rights in Leamington, would be curious to know more.. does anyone know where these where the individuals are today, and whether perhaps working conditions have - hopefully - improved as the community transitions into a post-Heinz era? This might be of interest if you havent seen it yet Sara Venney, Joyce Aldrich, Rod Brandt, Dan Kay, Alan Barthel and hey thanks for tipping me off about your friends documentary, Libby...El Contrato makes for compelling viewing! #nfb #elcontato #heinz #minsooklee #stompintom #leamington #tomato #tomatoe #ketchup #Mexico
