If you have daylilies that need divided, now is the perfect time - TopicsExpress

If you have daylilies that need divided, now is the perfect time to divide, enrich the soil, and share the increase. In the north, we never know how rough a winter will be, so if you delay planting or dividing your daylilies, place a brick or heavy rock near the foliage and on top of the root ball, to prevent heaving out of the soil with the freeze and thawing we experience. Freezing and then thawing is what pushes the roots out of the ground, because they have not had time to send out anchoring roots before winter. Also, If planting in the fall, northern growers are better off planting at least a double fan instead of a small single fan. I actually prefer a 3 fan clump for planting in the fall. So if I divide a clump, I try to make sure I divide them into 3 fan clumps or bigger. Any question or discussion about dividing and fall daylily planting?
