If you have never been to the Groton Public Library with your kids, you should go to see this. How many stories can you identify by the items? The Groton Public Library recently unveiled a new 5 by 15-foot oil painting (above) in its Childrens Room. Painted by Jessica Michelson Berger of Acton, the mural depicts a father and child exploring an attic filled with objects from 69 well-loved classics. The creation of the painting was commissioned as a collaborative effort between the Groton Public Library Endowment Fund, the Groton Cultural Council, Friends of the Library and the Trustees of the Library. The Librarys Art Committee first defined the need for a painting that was visually interactive and that related to childrens literature. The activities in the Childrens Room now include discovering the objects in the attic, discussing what book they came from and if the viewer has read the book. This shows that even a painting can help fulfill the mission the Groton Public Library by instilling the love and joy of reading at an early age, said Owen Shuman, director.
