If you have potted plants and are using a automatic watering - TopicsExpress

If you have potted plants and are using a automatic watering system for them, make sure you are using emitters designed for container plants such as spray sticks and not the drip emitters designed for in ground trees and plants. Drip does a good job watering in ground trees assuming you use enough, however drip emitters water too slowly and therefore in too narrow of a pattern to throughly water a potted plant. And because of the fast draining characteristics of potting soil you only wind up watering a small portion of the soil in the pot. A spray stick casts a wide spray pattern and are designed to water containerized outdoor plants but these can be hardier to find as most garden centers only carry the basics and you may have to shop online or at a irrigation supply company. Automation is great, but your best results are achieved when you use the right tool for the job. Below: Left - drip emitters for in ground watering Right - spray stakes for container watering ..
