If you have spent any time on any of the Elliott Key beaches, particularly those on the ocean-side, then you know that glass bottles are one of the more common debris items to wash ashore there. These bottles, along with other debris, accumulate and cause a myriad of issues, including affecting the viewscape for visitors and interfering with wildlife. An example of one such impact was observed this week: a hermit crab selected a broken glass bottle top for its shell. We hope that when this crab outgrows the glass bottle top, hell choose a more natural option for his next shell. (VLM)
