If you have time, watch this webcast. Besides exercise and nutrition, neuroscience is my next love. I interned at UMDNJ my senior year at Columbia University in the neuroscience lab and learned a great deal about brain adaptations and plasticity. There is so much that goes behind our decisions as to what we choose to eat. Medical professionals, such as, the doctors, scientists and researchers at this symposium from Harvard University, are trying to better understand how various cognitive, behavioral, physiological, and environmental cues effect the rise in obesity and poor nutrition. Through various testing (brain mapping methods, computer based cognitive testing, etc) there is a lot known about changes in brain activity in response to food choices we make on a daily basis, while also understanding the association between brain function and poor diet choices (i.e brain lesions have been associated with anorexia or a decrease in grey matter has been correlated to obesity).Obviously, this information is so important for our overall health, as well as, effective treatment of obesity and eating disorders. I will also pull, what I think to be exceptional information that we can all apply to our daily lives and post research papers on said topics. What I really want to drive home to you with this symposium is that our environment and eating habits mean everything to our health. Good eating habits will foster good eating habits, therefore, a great diet and good health. Poor eating habits will continue to foster poor eating habits, therefore, an unhealthy diet Lets learn how to conquer our eating behaviors together! Much love and gratitude to you all, Amber nutrition.med.harvard.edu/webcast.html
