If you havent already seen this video making the rounds, I highly encourage you to watch and listen to what this incredible young lady, Annie, is saying and doing. Specifically, what impacted me is what she says at the 3:19 mark regarding the 80% survival rate we hear thrown around. That number is solely based on 5yr survival rate...tossing to the wayside that there is a large portion of that 80% that relapses, develops new cancers or succumbs to complications related to the harsh treatments. Even if #childhoodcancer hasnt effected you directly yet, it very well may, as stated on Annies website the incidence of invasive cancer in children is up 29% in the last 20 years. Thats an alarming increase. And when you consider children who have Dashiells kind of cancer are going incorrectly diagnosed because it is a relatively unknown/new type to researchers for lack of adequate funding, its even more imperative so treatments can be developed.
