If you know him or were lucky enough to have eaten at one of his - TopicsExpress

If you know him or were lucky enough to have eaten at one of his pop-up restaurants in the past, the name Linus conjures up more than images of that thumbsucking, blanket-toting little brother. It’s synonymous with BBQ in Korea…seriously good BBQ. An Alabama boy, the man has built his reputation over the years such that, like Bono or Prince, he needs no other name and has his own devoted following. Mention Linus to any of these people and instantly memories of that perfectly delicious pulled pork sandwich come to mind. Thats what happens when a man seriously skilled at his trade loves what he does, and it shows in his food. Tonight, at long last and none too soon, Itaewon welcomed the grand opening of Linus BBQ with great fanfare and open arms. Local band, Dukes of Heartbreak, got things going setting the mood and rockin’ the tunes. Linus, as usual, could be seen in the kitchen as he and his cooks tended to every aspect of the food, making sure everything was to their exacting standards...and oh what standards...we should be so grateful. Having greedily served as a “test monkey” no less than a half dozen times over the past few weeks as the pitmaster lovingly applied his trade to every little thing on the menu, I can earnestly say that everything is REALLY FREAKING DELICIOUS! Stuff that legends are made of…and thats my objective opinion. Don’t believe me? Come down and try for yourself. Start with the little things like the tangy vinegar based slaw and the crispy shoestring fries, which come with the meal...if even these things are memorable, imagine how good what you actually pay for is going to be...be amazed and amused at the awesome selection of fried foods available: pickles, okra(!), jalapeno mac ‘n’ cheese balls to name a few, along with the soon to be famous DEEP FRIED RIB. Then, be blown away by the meats: OG Pulled Pork sandwich/platter, Brisket platter/sandwich that has a true smoke flavor and is seriously delicious, Rib “sandwich” (the man has a sense of humor), thick cut spare ribs, and various other goodies that I imagine will show up as specials – baby back ribs, glazed bacon (pork belly), and others…And in the spirit of farm to table, don’t forget to try the corn! Not the rubber pencil eraser corn sold on street corners here, but the tender and juicy corn reminiscent of home, grown on his farm. Not really sure how the seeds got here, but from what I understand, it was some truly cloak and dagger stuff…I’m sure I could have pried, but I prefer to live… In the spirit of objectivity, I suppose I should point out that only two soft drinks are offered: Coke and Cider. But even I felt pretty stupid listening to myself order far more than I could eat and finishing the order with a request for Diet Coke...besides, theres plenty of beer. Prices? Excellent for what you get...your guess is probably close. Location: go down the stairs directly left of the Itaewon McDonald’s, walk through the hallway and exit. Look to your right and join the festivities. If you don’t know where the McD’s is, learn…look it up, ask, bribe someone…fast. Parking available down the street at Yongsan District Office.
