If you, like me, had family that illegally emigrated to Palestine - TopicsExpress

If you, like me, had family that illegally emigrated to Palestine during the British Mandate period or served in one of the many forces that opposed British rule, you may be interested to learn that there is a very informative website for the Atlit Detention camp with many historic photographs, information about ships carrying refugees, mostly from Europe, some legal, some illegal, as well as a searchable database: en.maapilim.org.il/ The Atlit detention camp was established by the British Mandatory government in the 1930s to prevent Jewish refugees from entering Palestine. Tens of thousands of Jewish immigrants were interned at the camp which was surrounded by barbed wire and watchtowers. The camp is now a museum, which I had the pleasure of visiting in April 2014 when I was guided by dear friends and fellow researchers Leah Teicher and Lea Haber Gedalia. Thanks to the Israel Genealogical Society for bringing this website to my attention in one its Facebook posts.
