If you listen to all genre of music,it all lead back to the delta blues, listening to the early blues artist you can experience in song how they felt and what they knew, good times and bad.It is not by accident that their music is taught around the world in some of our large schools of higher learning, and many books are written about these Delta Blues artist. Many blacks long abandon the blues, which is like throwing the baby out with the bath water. Many of these artist were very smart and wrote their own lyrics, though I would say many artist young and old recorded my dads music, and few blacks knew or cared about this type music, especially pass the 1950s. Many when watching the Ed Sullivan show and applauding the many singers from Europe who were performing my dad and other delta blues artist, line by line, and American fans could not get enough, helping to make them mega stars,Elvis Presley included. The blues is part of the African American history,it tell a story of how things were and what they desired things to be.What disturb me about many in our race is that we are not inquisitive enough about our wonderful culture and so quick to forget it. What will you pass on to the next generation,do you feel you have a role in promoting our culture in its many forms or do we simply react to life as it happens in our own space. It is important that you continue to pass our wonderful history through out the world and especially at home, many of our children not nurtured enough about their wonderful history. Your life and your ancestors lifes are important and interesting, collecting family pictures putting names on the back, sadly most just keep them stored on their I phones, cell phones, making it lost to history.I feel it matters not how tough the times, and probably not as bad as our ancestors had it,we allow ourselves to drop out of history, recording very little if any thing at all. You are very important and so is your family and community, the next generation must know about you and your family and the things that has meant something to you. There is no way that I can learn about other folk history and not have a desire to know the truth about my own,you really lose your power when you can not represent your history. My self I love the stories told in Gospel music and the blues. When you can not represent, you are like a little child, waiting to to be led by others who know your value and take it from you and in rich their own pocket. God has blessed us with amazing ancestors, and it is expected that you educate the next generation about them.We all can be a blessing,we all have wonderful experiences, though times take you up and down, but our role is to inform the next generation.
