If you live in Oklahoma, prepare yourself for the potential that severe thunderstorms could impact the area late Sunday afternoon and night into Monday morning. A strong upper-level storm system with a very powerful and fast moving cold front will move into northern Oklahoma and the body of the state late Sunday. Atmosphere moisture, adequate instability and increasing wind shear in the atmosphere will create an environment capable of supporting the development of strong to severe thunderstorms late Sunday. Any storm that develops will have the potential to produce quarter to tennis ball size hail and destructive wind speeds in excess of 75-80 mph. As these storms develop along that potent cold front they should eventually form into a dangerous and intense line of severe thunderstorms, as they approach central Oklahoma. These storms could also produce tornadoes as well and 75-80 mph winds. Damage and injuries to people outside can be expected with storms that intense in nature. Skywarn spotter groups, storm chasers and emergency personnel should monitor the weather situation closely and be ready to perform severe weather operations tonight. For the public of the people of Oklahoma, be alert and weather aware for the potential for dangerous storms to develop late Sunday. Be alert and ready to act if severe thunderstorms or tornadoes threaten your area. Have a NOAA Weather Radio to alert you for severe storms, including tornadoes.
