If you live in the Village of Owego you have probably received a post card in the mail titled Vote to Save Your Village Emergency Medical Service. It is a spurious and inaccurate message stating that the Mayor wants do away with EMS service in the Village. This is absolutely not true; in fact we recently hired a new full time EMS staff person. When she asked about this issue, she was told that we expect the EMS Squad to be here for a long time. What the Mayor and Board have urged is that the Fire Department and EMS leadership look into being able to bill for EMS services rendered. Many area EMS services have done this.My estimate is with 2000 calls per year at $ 500 per call the EMS Squad could bill for $1,000,000 annually to fund EMS Squad Operations. We have asked why EMS leadership continues to leave money in insurance company hands when we all pay into insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. The Mayor and the Rebuild Owego Party have been strong supporters of a safe working environment on The Village of Owego Fire Department and will continue that strong support. As far as the allegation of “secret back door meetings”, there have been NO meetings that did not meet the strict requirements of the NYS Open Meeting Law. It is very disappointing to see this kind of Inside the DC Beltway campaign tactics being used in Village of Owego elections. The standard DC like disclaimer is on the postcard, but this mailing reflects poorly on the party that claims to strive for a positive change. Kevin Millar Please share this message
