If you missed this afternoons game you missed a nail biter edge of your seat game folks. The first period Oldholes start the scoring at 4:36 into the game. Mike Perko answers with an unassisted goal to tie it up 1-1 at 10:51 in the first. After 20 minutes it is locked up 1-1. In the second period the Oldholes take the lead with a goal at 5:29 in to go ahead by 1. The RedLiners failed to answer that one and are down 2-1 after 40 minutes of play. At 2:35 in the third the RedLiners give them the answer with a goal by David Glick assisted by Todd Brown. After that goal there were no more goals during regulation, so time for free hockey with it tied up 2-2 after 60 minutes of battle. Both teams secure a point with the OT. So its time for 5 minutes of overtime to decide who gets the 3rd point and finishes 1st place in the league. Well that did not decide a winner either with no scoring by either team, with both netminders stopping every shot from finding the back of the net. The RedLiners go first, Curtis Wyrick goes first, he skates in with the puck, shoots a hard wrister high stick side and the goalie pulls up his stick just in time to make the save. The Oldholes send in their first to the woodpile, he skates in and shoots high glove side. The Woodpile flashes the leather and snags it out of the air with a glove save. RedLiners go in for a second time, Derek Caudle skates in and makes a good hard shot but the Oldhole goalie makes another stop. Oldholes send in their second person, he skates in fakes out the woodpile. The woodpile goes down to the right and the Oldhole skater went back to the left of the woodpile on the glove side and puts it in the back of the net for the lead. Lyle Lance is the next RedLiner up he skated in and placed a great shot on the goalies glove side that richocheted off the goalie and rings the left post and then bounces out. Oldholes send in their next in, he skates in does a couple of fakes and sends a hard shot to the left side of the woodpile. He sticks his left leg pad out and the woodpile makes the save. Mike Perko up for the RedLiners skates in and makes a good shot that their goalie stops again. Oldholes 4th person skates in and tries for the Woodpiles 5hole, the Woodpile goes down and makes the save closing up the wickets. Brian Henson skates last in the shootout for the RedLiners he skates in and makes a good shot and just could not get it by their netminder either. The RedLiners put 29 shots on goal and but just couldnt get enough through their netminder. The RedLiners lose for the third straight time by 1 goal, we had 1 regulation loss, 1 overtime loss and 1 shoot out lost the past three weeks. Very close and tough games lately..... We are not ashamed of 2nd place we will give the season run down after the Knights and Jokers finish tonight. But hey the playoffs start next week we play two days in a row Saturday August 23rd and Sunday August 24th. We play the Oldholes for the 8th time this season at 6pm next Saturday night for the seeding game. If we win we play the first round the next day August 24th at 6pm if we loose we play at 4:30 on Sunday so come on out and cheer us on.
