If you never read anything else I write all the way through, please at least give this one a chance. This is a very important subject, and Im truly disturbed by the things people say when the topic comes up. Im not usually one to write about celebrity deaths, and I probably wouldnt be writing about this if it werent for the fact that Robin Williams apparently died by suicide. Its essential that everyone understand a few things about suicide: its a choice. Its not the result of a disease. Its never right. Its never OK. Its always selfish. Its never freeing. It will never solve anything, ever. Period. You might think its too soon to be making this point, but Id say theres never been a better time. We cant just sit here and let people go around saying that a man has been freed by suicide, or that he died from depression, as if a depressed person might reach a point where suicide claims them against their will. These are truly terrible sentiments, and I KNOW that they have a horrible influence on people who might be contemplating suicide. So give this a read and reserve judgment until youve heard what I have to say:
