If you read about the great guitarists, bassist, keyboardist and singers of Rock and Roll, and see who they were influenced by, you will see a very long list for each type of performer. If you do the same for drummers, they all mention the same person. Buddy Rich. Buddy would have turned 97 years old today. You will be hard pressed to find a drummer that influenced more drummers than Buddy did. You will hear stories that Buddy was a hard ass, impossible to get along with etc. But those who knew him will tell you he was the nicest, warmest hearted, generous man they ever met. He may have raised his voice about his music but he felt that if people were going to pay good money to see him and his band, they deserved perfection. The video here is of Buddy doing a solo at The Concert of the Americas in 1982. Keep in mind, he was 65 when he did this. Happy Birthday Buddy. Thank You for everything.
