If you say thats a marriage, you are saying marriage can be understood, in principle, apart from procreation; you have changed its definition in such a way, as in fact, to destroy the necessity for the institution, since the only reason it has existed in human societies & civilizations was to regulate, from a social point of view, the obligations & responsibilities attended upon procreation. --Alan Keyes I heard Alan Keyes say this a few years ago. The only reason Im bringing it up is because I didnt pick up on the implications at the time. The goal currently seems to be marriage equality, but I cant help but wonder if well ultimately see our society question the need for civil marriage altogether. And if that ends up being the case, it makes me wonder how parental rights will be effected. Again, its not something I thought about before, but as we near the birth of our second child, I find myself thinking about it more.
