If you think that saying, “I am Charlie,” means someone - TopicsExpress

If you think that saying, “I am Charlie,” means someone supports free speech, guess again… Millions worldwide are declaring, “Je suis Charlie!” But apparently, all that means is that they feel sorry for the victims, not they support their free speech. In France, between hate speech and anti-terrorism laws, a number of people have been prosecuted for saying things that either criticize or support radical Islam. A controversial French comedian was just arrested for making offensive anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist jokes on Facebook. Even French icon Brigitte Bardot has been fined five times for criticizing Muslim immigrants’ treatment of animals. Not only is America the only nation with a First Amendment that guarantees freedom of all speech, but most other nations are outraged that we won’t join the UN and World Court in redefining free speech to exclude unapproved speech. What makes America both unique and great is that our Founders realized that “government-approved free speech” is a contradiction in terms.
