If you want to see the real picture of the Arab Main Street, this is terrific insight. It is very difficult to explain to Westerners how Arab culture operates, thinks, feels. One might argue that if this feeling were genuine, the Iraqis would be grinding ISIL into the dust... but its akin to -- and perhaps this is the worst possible of all analogies -- your hand trying to rip off your face, and youre Ash in the cabin with the chainsaw. Cutting off your hand is a difficult thing to do. Cutting off families, ties, traditions, centuries is all very difficult to do. ISIL is doing something that is utterly unthinkable in Arab societies -- rarely in history do you read of an Arab army wiping out entire civilizations. Surely you see this in the West (the Nazis, the Communists) though... and that is what ISIL is imitating here. It is out of desperation that the Iraqis are asking for a Western response to Western tactics -- the memetics of something like ISIL (or even al-Qaeda or even the Muslim Brotherhood) are something that Arab culture simply isnt inoculated against. Its why such small numbers can swamp out the majority of the populace... and again, tough to explain, because we as Westerners have a far different mindset in response to such violence.
