If you were a student of South Africas Constitution making process - TopicsExpress

If you were a student of South Africas Constitution making process and read the literature at the time in the 90s, you will know Nicholas Fink Haysom, especial if your interest was in both the interim and final Constitution.Take that a step further and study the years 1994- 1999, Fink featured as Madibas Legal and Constituional Adviser.Fastforward to the Machakos Protocol in 2002 in Kenya which led to the adoption of the Comprehensive Peace Agrement in 2005 which outlined how wealth needed to be shared between the North and the South in Sudan, then you will understand why one is so proud to see that this Outstanding son of the soil Who worked in the Burundi Peace Process as part of the behind the scenes team was appointed last week as the new Special Representative for Secretary General( SRSG)for the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan( UNAMA) taking over from the Slovak, Jan Kubis....it is a permanent source of pride when South Africans occupy critical positions in the continental and nternational system. Shortly after the sterling work done by Ambassador Welile Nhlapo in the Kimberley Process, the efficient tenure at the African Development Bank by Former Minister Geraldine Fraser Moleketi in Tunis, the continuing courageous work by Dr.Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma as AU Commission Chair in Addis, supported by the able Policy Advisors, Ambassadors Baso Sangqu and Febe Potgieter-Gqubule , Former President Mbekis consistent leadership of the Hybrid AU- UN High level Panel on Sudan, the leadership of Phumzile Mlambo - Ngcuka as the Executive Director of the gender entity UN - Women, in New York, you realize that you have a critical mass of South Africans who are respected worldwide in their fields including the University of Pretoria based jurist, Dr.Dire Tladi, who I think still serves in the International Law Commission at The Hague. I recall these moments fondly because when one served in the UN Security Council on top of my Press Attaché responsibilities I dealt with East Asia as well as Iraq and Afghanistan as one of my files. So I have followed the work of Mr.Haysom over the years with interest. When one provided communications support to both Special Envoys Ambassadors Kingsley Mamabolo who is now our Ambassador in New York as well as Frmer Minister Charles Nqakula who used to serve as High Commissioner in Mozambique, we often went through his recommendations and insights started by the work Fink did in Burundi. I wish this outstanding son of the soil all the best as he carries out his new functions as SRSG for UNAMA.The world has massive confidence in our compatriots.Amandla South Africa!
