If youll allow a rather ponderous post ... could I please encourage anyone badly affected by the fires to seek professional assistance with coping. It is very likely that some people (especially children and those who have lost their homes) will be suffering from PTSD, which is a genuine mental health disorder and not just a coping problem. Please dont be ashamed about asking for help. There will be many reminders of the trauma in the next few months, and each siren and helicopter will revive traumatic memories. You are not paranoid or overly dramatic - you are experiencing perfectly reasonable reactions and there are people who can help without judging.
