If your kids are asking to go see the Shrine Circus in Fort Wayne - TopicsExpress

If your kids are asking to go see the Shrine Circus in Fort Wayne later this month, might we suggest an alternative? Visit Black Pine Animal Sanctuary. The sanctuary will be open to the public (weather permitting) on Feb. 14 and March 15 from 1-4 p.m. Black Pine is a short 40-minute drive from Fort Wayne. Why visit Black Pine vs. the circus? 1) Because you will save money! Black Pine is a 501c3 charity. 86 cents of every dollar spent is invested back into direct animal care to provide permanent refuge to over 100 animals, including 10 tigers, a lion, three cougars, six black bears, four wolves, four foxes, and many other displaced, captive-raised exotic animals. (Free for ages 0-2, $7 for ages 3-9, $10 for ages 10+). A circus ticket purchase benefits the Mizpah Shriners, not Shriners Hospital or any other charitable organization. Ticket purchases are not tax deductible. 2) Because at Black Pine your child will not be encouraged to believe wildcats and elephants are companion animals to be mastered by humans. Instead of seeing people putting their lives (and those of their animals) at risk, Black Pines staff will share nearly 20 years of happy endings, stories of animal rescue, including the former circus animals who now live here, freed from cramped travel cages and no longer fearful of abuse for misbehaving. 3) Because if you believe captive animals have the right to be free from exploitation for profit, free from cruelty, neglect, and abuse; have the right to a healthy diet, protective shelter, and adequate medical care; have the right to live and grow at the rhythm and under the conditions of life and freedom peculiar to their species... the circus is not the place to show it. Circus animals live a great deal of their lives in transit, under the radar of oversight, and exist solely to generate profit. We wont post over and over again telling you or anyone else what to do (or not to do). But we are very happy to offer up an alternative to you and your family to do something that helps instill in the next generation a compassion for animals and a respect for public safety. Follow this page, or visit our website at blackpine.org, for details about the upcoming events. Thank you.
