If your pet is diagnosed with kidney disease, the first thing your traditional veterinarian will prescribe is a prescription diet with low protein and phosphorous. Commonly, they will prescribe a dry food diet, which is absolutely the worst thing you can feed a pet with kidney disease. The kidneys thrive on MOISTURE, so a diet with high moisture content is paramount. If you cant cook for your pet but want to feed a species-appropriate, high moisture diet, check out Darwins frozen raw foods (formulated by holistic veterinarians!) made specially for animals with kidney disease. There is a chapter in my book From Needles to Natural that addresses kidney disease in more depth. There is a natural product called Renavast that I prescribe for any pet with early or late kidney disease which will slow progression of the disease. There are lots of other food choices available for home cooking. Check them in the book! #kidneydisease #petcare #olddogs #oldcats #petkidneydisease #kidneydiets
