If youre an industrialist, a person who pays people to makes - TopicsExpress

If youre an industrialist, a person who pays people to makes things which you then sell at a profit, you benefit from efficient public services. Good public education means your employees are well prepared for the work they do. Good public health care means that, when people are sick or injured, theyre back on the job as quickly as possible. A good transport system means that your raw materials arrive as ordered, you can deliver your products on time to your clients, and your staff can get to work easily. Good policing and low crime mean you need to spend less on private security to prevent your products from being stolen before theyre sold. If you have any sense, you understand that these things cost money, and the tax you pay for them is for YOUR benefit too. If youre a financier, things are different. If you live by passing round money that other people have worked to earn while skimming off some for yourself, those things arent nearly so important — especially when the money consists of computer data passed round on a network. All that really matters is that the electricity stays on, the computers and networks stay up, and the hackers are kept out. Since Margaret Thatchers time, the UK has followed a policy of politically-motivated de-industrialisation, resulting in a change in nature of the moneyed classes from an industrialist class to a financier class. From there, the decline in standards in public servies, from Margaret Thatchers time on, is easy to explain. They used to be important to the people at the top, and now they arent.
