If youre in cardiac arrest or just converted from cardiac arrest, youre going to the closest hospital, no questions asked. Your life is much more important than your insurance status. This is not the PARAMEDICS fault. This is an insurance problem. The patients condition warranted her going to the closest facility even if the other facility was only 3 blocks away (approximately 1 mile), so her insurance should cover it as if it was in network. If the patients condition would have worsened in those 3 blocks and she didnt survive wed be reading an article about paramedics being sued and going to jail for negligent homicide for passing up the closest facility. They made the right call. They did their job. The patient survived.
