If youve been living under a rock (and one with no TV or Internet - TopicsExpress

If youve been living under a rock (and one with no TV or Internet at that), the first episode of Foxs new series Cosmos premiered this last Sunday. Its a remake of Carl Sagans original series bearing the same name and has pretty much the same goal - to explain science in a way even people with no scientific background can understand. But perhaps more importantly, its goal is to inspire a new generation of scientists, science enthusiasts, science communicators, and scientifically literate people. With the first episode out, I can say that it looks more than promising. Neil deGrasse Tyson, host and incredibly famous astrophysicist, does a wonderful job at summarizing the history of the universe, our planet, and our species - all accompanied with some of the most beautiful images of the cosmos. And if you watch this (as you should!) and feel a little daunted - its okay, the following episodes will explore everything he (briefly) mentions in the pilot and give it its due attention: from the big bang theory, to the formation of stars and galaxy, to the inception of planets, and ultimately the birth of life and our species.
