If youve ever noticed, I never capitalize the A in autism. That - TopicsExpress

If youve ever noticed, I never capitalize the A in autism. That would show respect to the disorder, and to me, disrespect to those with it. Theres nobody that I respect more than people that are affected by autism and dont just lay down and quit. Adam is a proper name, and is a young man in my house that has autism and deserves my love and respect.. Erin is also a proper name, and is the name of a young man in my house that I love and respect very much also, that has a different form of autism called Aspergers Syndrome, which I only capitalize because its named after a man that did something to help people with a particular type of autism. So, unless its in the title of an event, or a deserving organization, until theres a cure for those that want it, and better treatment options and services for those that dont, then Ill continue to choose not to show respect to the very thing that destroys lives and hits so close to home. My kids are not autistic. It doesnt define them. They are more than a category, and much more than just kids with autism. I wont allow it to define who they are. Who they are is what makes them who they are, and autism has nothing to do with that. My kids may have autism, but, Ill be damned if autism will have my kids. So, #FUautism . You messed with the wrong kids. Ours . =)
