If youve met me, you know I find it nigh on impossible to keep a secret (I mean, more like surprises. Nick and I can almost never wait until birthdays to give each other gifts. That kind of secret-keeping), so this was exponentially difficult. Some of you might also recall that this timing will seem off. It is. Nick and I first found I was pregnant back in June, the Thursday before Denver Comic Con, and we shared the news a lot over the weekend out of utter excitement. Unfortunately, a few weeks later we lost that pregnancy, very early, at perhaps five weeks or so. If it werent for the modern miracle of extraordinarily sensitive pregnancy tests, we may not have even known. I didnt share about the loss; its hard to know what to say. Its a thing that happens, especially so early on, and at the time it was at least proof that we could conceive. So theres that. But things work out as they do, and here we are again. I actually may have panicked a little as I started feeling cramps in the last few days (which turn out to be perfectly normal), and headbutted my way into my doctors office for this early ultrasound out of sheer paranoia (which my amazing doctor understood completely and fit me in). Were reassured that everything for right now is perfectly fine, and while I suppose traditionally its a bit early to be announcing anything, Im doing it anyway, because I cant stay quiet about it. Im too excited and happy. Nick and I are having a baby.
