If youve never spent time with James Baldwin, reading such classic works as “Go Tell It on the Mountain” and such essay collections as “The Fire Next Time” and “Notes of a Native Son,” you should. Had he lived, he would be celebrating his 90th birthday today. Baldwin was one of Americas great writers who produced novels, poems, plays, & essays. He was a righteously angry, courageous and outspoken advocate for civil and human rights in this country. Born in Harlem, New York, Baldwin graduated from the all-boys DeWitt Clinton high school in the Bronx -- working on the school magazine with Richard Avedon -- and later attended The New School. In his early twenties, he moved to Paris, where he spent most of the rest of his life. Get acquainted here: pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/episodes/james-baldwin/about-the-author/59/
