If youve never watched The Passion of the Christ starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus and directed by Mel Gibson, watch it this Easter. Word of warning: do NOT watch it with young children or with anyone who would be badly distressed by the violence. It is bloody, violent, horrible, and not for the squeamish. However, if you want to know what Jesus did for you; what He really suffered for you, watch it. Its powerful. Jim Caviezel is a fantastic actor, and he does justice to the role. And as an aside, even if you dont like Bill OReilly, his book Killing Jesus provides some interesting insights into the life of Jesus, particularly the political and historical setting of the time in which Jesus lived and died. I would definitely read the book first, then watch the movie. The book is a scholarly approach to the story of Jesus, with no attempt to discuss any deep theological issues. The movie is a gut-wrenching, very visceral experience. Crucifixion is a horrible way to die, and I think for those of us who were raised on a fairly clean, pretty, bloodless version of the death of Jesus, we need a wake up call. Just my opinion. I know the movie caused quite a stir when it was released. Happy Palm Sunday, everyone.
