If youve never watched this before, you should take the time (30 minutes) to watch it here now, or whenever you can get the chance. Its the first part of an excellent series about child musicians, called The Music In Me, which was presented on HBO about eight years ago. Ive often shown it to my pre-school, K2 and First Grade music students, who always watch with rapt attention. For them, and for me, the superstar of this segment is little Créole accordion player Guyland Leday, from Louisiana, whos now got to be about 15-16, but was 7 at the time. Also, New York street drummer Qassim Middleton has always been a big hit. Nathan Chan, the cellist, is almost scary, hes so talented, sensitive and smart. Actually, all of these kids are amazing. Its great that its available on Vimeo, because HBO has never reproduced the series for public distribution -- why, I dont know. Ive posted the link to Part 2 below.
