If you’ve competed in a fun run in Sydney in the past few years, you’ve no doubt seen a particularly large turnout from a group wearing a vibrant shade of purple. Led by Sophie Smith, the motivated team, called Running for Premature Babies, has raised over $1 million for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Randwick’s Royal Hospital for Women. Sophie’s boys, Henry, Jasper and Evan, were born severely prematurely and, although they lived for only a short time, the care her children received while in the hospital’s care prompted her lend a hand. Sophie’s devotion to her boys and commitment to their legacy is now a powerful and instrumental fundraising force.
