Igali Inaugurates Wrestling Committees -Targets Rio Olympic 2016 Wrestling Medal President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Baraladei Igali has set up 10 committees to pilot the affairs of the federation for the next four years. Igali had at the second Board meeting with his members at the Peemos Palace Hotel in Warri weekend announced the names of the members of the committees. Prince FAB Adenekan is to lead the Marketing Committee while Ben Memuletiwon chairs the Media, Social Media and Protocol Committee as retired Grp Cpt Murtala Abdul Loko heads the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee. Youth and Talent Hunt Committee is headed by Purity Akuh, Female Wrestling/Development is given to Dr Jude Amadi, director of sports Akwa Ibom while Medical and Anti-doping committee is headed by Dr Bello Toyyibat. Other committees are Beach and Associated Style Wrestling, headed by Chief Austin Edeze; Institutional Development under the leadership of Sunday Baba; Hall of Fame under Abubakar Umar and Technical Committee under Damian Ohiake. Igali charged the committee members to work tirelessly to ensure that Nigeria win Wrestling medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil stressing that such feat is possible after a holistic and objective assessment of the wrestlers at the just concluded First DR E. K Clark National Wrestling Championship in Warri, Delta State. “My target is to win wrestling medal at the 2016 Olympic Games,” Igali said. “That is the target of the Wrestling Federation. The biggest obstacle has been the fact that the wrestlers don’t compete regularly but with the Dr E. K Clark Championship we have taken the first step. “To perform well at the Olympic Games a wrestler needs at least 32 matches a year and we will get that before the Olympics. Regular bouts give the wrestler confidence and we hope that we will consummate the gains of the Warri event with yet other championships in Lagos, Bayelsa and Edo States before we go for the Commonwealth games next year,” he said. The Dr E. K Clark Wrestling Championship was won by Bayelsa State with 12 gold followed by Delta with 5 gold and Ondo with 3 gold. Twenty four states participated in the tournament together with six private clubs with over 400 wrestlers competing in Greco Roman and Freestyle categories.
