Il Pirata Re, Abbotts pre election promise not cut ABC and SBS funding. Abbott made the distinction between ABC/SBS funding and other perspective cuts when he said there will be NO cuts to ABC/SBS. Arguing that this promise was interpreted outside of the context of an overall desire to cut government spending in all areas is disingenuous. Once again, Abbott made the distinction clearly and unequivocally knowing that public broadcaster funding was an issue with voters. He could just as easily have said there WOULD be cuts but I guess there were less votes in such honesty. The subsequent selectivity of pre election promise interpretation is turd polishing, nothing more. Allow me to provide a different context to Abbotts promise. Given that so many promises have been forgotten/broken/massaged since the election, it would not be unfair to suggest that the LNP said and did whatever was required to win, not to inform. No amount of spin or weasel speak changes this fact when their actions so completely contradict their pre election rhetoric. Such duplicitous behaviour only serves to further undermine public trust and hence desire to participate in a system so ambiguous that one can no longer believe anything said by our elected officials.
