Ill let someone else say it: I hate journalists who struggle to fit stories in to their preconceived narratives in order to make a point that is largely fallacious. Take this quote from The Guardians current article about Katie Mitchell: After a 2009 take on Purcells Dido and Aeneas at the National was widely panned, Mitchell suddenly struggled to find work. In 2010, she found herself directing the childrens Christmas show at the National. For a start, Dido and Aeneas was at the Young Vic, not the NT. But more importantly, directing the childrens show at the National is no bad thing whatsoever, and is something she wanted to do (in fact it was the second one she had done there). In the 18 months or so after that she went on to direct at the NT again (A woman Killed with Kindness) and at the Hampstead and at the Royal Court. As well as doing all her international stuff alongside that. It is true that she has a big following on the continent and can probably make work more easily there, but the idea that Britain has snubbed her is just bollocks not least becuase she is directing at the Young Vic again this Autumn. (None of this is a criticism of KM by the way, who I think is awesome and have huge repect for, just crap journalism.)
