Ill line you all up and whip everyone of you till I get the right one !! Mom said loudly. She would say this from time to time. It may have been a scare tactic to make the guilty one or ones, feel afraid they were going to get the innocent ones in trouble or to get one to tell on the guilty so they wouldnt get a whipping too. I know it rarely ever worked. Mom had a pretty good idea who did what anyway and would nearly always figure out who was the real culprit with evidence !! Although there were a few times she wasnt sure or didnt have enough proof, we all did take a few licks...guess she got the right one or ones !!! I usually wouldnt the right one and even though I knew who usually was, I would only say,it wasnt me. then take my licks too. My brothers, sisters and I may have received several whippings, however, I know for sure we all got by with a great deal !!! Years later we have each told stuff on ourselves and each other that Im sure wouldve been worthy of a good whooping !! These stories were and are shared at almost all of our family functions. Stories of putting someone in the washing machine, dryer, car trunks, setting fires, climbing on the roofs of the house and barn, ect. When Mom was living, she would listen to us and shake her head and say with a big grin,I didnt know it at the time or I woulda whipped em. I didnt know just how mean you all really was !! Then she said a bit more serious,The Lord shore was good to me and Edmond. Raised twelve children... God watched over all you young-uns and kept youns from getting drowned, snake bit and being hurt pulling some of them stunts...buddy, Jed came close. Id say he just missed a good chance of getting killed falling off that swing up there in the holler. He got hurt pretty bad anyway. Lord knows, if them Tincher boys hadnt been up there with him, why he might wouldve laid right there no telling how long... Mom was certainly right, God was sure good to protect the lot of us. He surely blessed us with great, God fearing and praying parents and Im positive He answered many prayers for them !!!
