Ill take it. He was the president that declared war on Britain which started the War of 1812, also commonly referred to as The Second Revolution to Prove the First. He was elected to a second term in spite of the War of 1812 getting off to a bad and rocky start. He was surrounded by incompetence at almost every level, but managed to eventually find and put effective people in place, including promoting Winfield Scott from Captain to full Colonel and placing him as second in command of the Army of the North. Scott then proceeded to systematically kick the British all the way into Canada. Madison was also the one that gave Andrew Jackson a promotion from General in the militia to a full commission to General in the regular army and placed him in command of the Army of the South where Jackson would go on to hand the British a resounding defeat in the Battle for New Orleans. So many made the mistake of underestimating Madison because of his small physical stature and his mild and meek manner. He was, however, an incredibly intelligent and articulate man.
