Ill tell you another thing I am loving about being over here; its a clean slate. Standing in back of my home club in San Francisco, I will get dirty looks from comics who think they know something about me because a comic I had a relationship with has told them something about me. Ive seen that look in the eyes of her friends many times now. They catch themselves looking spitefully at me and then smile a weak sort of rehearsed expression and say something like, how are you, in a flat tone. The whole thing is so damn high school and these people, all of whom consider them selves smart compassionate people, have never once asked me if I am deserving of their scorn. Im not looking to burn someone out of spite or hurt someones reputation, thats really not my style, but after being told for three years we had to keep our relationship secret because it would hurt her image, its so refreshing to be in a comedy scene where none of that baggage came with me. Instead, the people here know me and appreciate me for all the reasons she explained people could never know we were together: Im a white guy with not a lot of money who doesnt give a shit about the opinions of people who believe managing the opinions of people will help them achieve happiness.
